Breast Cancer

Overview :

The cancer originating in the cells of the breast is breast cancer. It may spread to groups of lymph nodes close to breast such as in the armpit (axilla), above the collarbone (Supraclavicular), and under the breast bone (substernal). The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma . Other types include lobular carcinoma. Invasive breast cancer is the cancer that has spread from where it began in the breast to surrounding normal tissue.

Symptoms

Lump in the breast or in the armpit

Dimpling of the skin

Inverted nipple

Redness over and around the region of the nipple

Discharge from the nipple

Diagnosis

  • A complete medical history of the patient along with physical examination of the breast and axilla.
  • Investigations like Mammography, Ultrasound of the breast, Needle biopsy from the breast lump , MRI , and lab tests like the hormone receptor tests.

Treatment

  • Surgery
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Hormonal Therapy
