Stomach Cancer

Overview :

Stomach Cancer initiates in the cells of the stomach which change and behave abnormally . These changes may lead to benign gastric polyps or pre-cancerous lesions which can further transform into cancer. Adenocarcinoma makes up about 95% of stomach cancers , others being Lymphomas, Neuroendocrine tumors or Gastrointestinal Stromal tumor.

Diagnosis

  • It includes a detailed history and physical examination along with Endoscopy with biopsy , Ultrasound , MRI / PET scan, H.Pylori test or Laproscopy.

Treatment

  • Surgery
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy

Colon & Rectum Cancer

The colon and rectum together make up the large intestine. The cells lining the colon and rectum may become abnormal and lead to formation of polyps . Colorectal cancer usually arises from these polyps. About 90-95% of all colorectal carcinomas are adenocarcinomas. Physical inactivity, diet rich in red meat, increased body weight, smoking are some of the risk factors.

Diagnosis

  • Per rectal examination with a detailed history
  • Colonoscopy along with biopsy
  • CT scan / MRI Scan/ Ultrasound / PET Scan

Treatment

  • The treatment plan depends on which part the colon and rectum is affected , but usually surgery is the main treatment.
