Pancreatic Cancer

Overview :

Exocrine tumors are the most common type of pancreatic cancer. 95% of the cancers of exocrine pancreas are adenocarcinomas, the remaining being either squamous cell carcinomas or Undifferentiated cancers. Endocrine tumors of the pancreas are uncommon, mostly being Neuroendocrine tumors.

Diagnosis

  • Apart from a detailed history and physical examination, radiological investigations like CT scan, or PET Scan and histopathological investigations like a CT guided biopsy may be performed.

Treatment

  • Cancer of the pancreas can be cured only if diagnosed at an early stage and only if surgery can completely remove the tumor. Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and Targeted therapy may be given as adjuncts.

Gall Bladder Cancer

Gall bladder is a small, pear shaped organ just beneath the liver. This type of cancer is uncommon and is usually diagnosed at later stages, when the prognosis is poor. 85% of gall bladder cancers are adenocarcinomas. Gall stones are the most common risk factors for gall bladder cancers.

  • Tumor markers such as CEA and CA 19-9
